7 years ago Thomas Szabo directed a very unique short film, without dialogue and mixing computer-generated insects and real, non-animated landscape shots. After having discovered this film, French producer Philippe Delarue (Futurikon Films), immediately proposed to Thomas and to Hélène Giraud to develop a series of short programmes for TV and a theatrical feature film. This is Minuscule.A first then a second series of TV shorts were produced, earning critical and public acclaim worldwide. The film, which shares the same uniqueness but aims to be bigger and better, is going to need more time in the script writing and in the overall preparation. The shooting of the film, in 3D and cinemascope, starts today in the gorgeous settings of the South of France in the national parks of the Mercantour and the Ecrins. This is what this blog is all about.

Discover the people who create the sets. First, the team of sculptors!
Using multiple hand made tools, the sculptors, as talented craftsmen, shape the huge blocks of polystyrene, under the supervision of François Roux, chief sculptor.
Before addressing the main structure, small 60cm x 60cm models were created for each of the seven sets to be built from scratch! This manual work requires accuracy & thoroughness!

James is the special effects supervisor. His role is to ensure that the footage is usable to add computerized images (C.G.I.!) from characters to props. On the set, he does not hesitate to set foot in … the river to take reference pictures.
